Marketing Ideas Are Worthless
How time flies! I can’t believe August is over.
Anyway, down to business with a quick post. I just want to share a small business marketing experience I had recently. A friend of mine has his own business and was struggling just to sell his flagship product. He had a good quality product and offered great service. He even had an ultra low (yet temporary) price on this product, yet nobody was buying it.
Not only this dumbfound him, but I was confused that with such a great value why nobody was buying it.
The Marketing Idea
As him and I were talking about possible solutions at a networking meeting, an acquaintance of ours joined the conversation. We caught him up to speed and he threw out a marketing idea.
Basically, he suggested asking people for a small deposit which would lock in the temporary low price. It would also allow them to show a little bit of a commitment until the final details of the purchase were solidified. For this product I thought it was a good suggestion.
To reinforce his idea, our acquaintance then said, “I’d do it!”
“Ok, you’ve got yourself a deal,” I said without hesitation. What better way to see how good of a marketing idea it was, then to try it right there on the spot?
Our acquaintance smiled and kind of chuckled. “On second thought…” No, he didn’t end up placing a deposit with my friend.
The Lesson
Take your experience and knowledge into consideration. Ask for opinions from your spouse or friend. But, in the end, marketing ideas are just that, ideas.
Even more so, marketing ideas are worthless unless you try them out and implement them.
So, if you have any marketing idea collecting dust in the back of your mind, it’s not going to do you any good unless you take action! What are you waiting for?
